For more information on Microsoft 365, Office Suite please visit: How to download and install MS Office at Support.microsoft.com

  1. Download the Installer (save this file somewhere convenient, like your Downloads folder) (this installs the Server and Workstation, then you must run the Updater to update them to 4.2r7)

  1. Download the 4.2r7 Updater (again, save somewhere handy)

  1. Please read the installation instructions before starting your installation process.

If you have purchased a Network license and have a local area network setup that you want to use with your QuoteSoft Pipe program, you must have a Mapped Drive set up to connect to the server location where you will be storing the QuoteSoft Pipe Database and Server-side files.

Install Piping Server and Database

To install the server files and database, ensure you have downloaded the QuoteSoft Pipe installer to the computer on which you will run the application. If you are using a network and server, you must have a Mapped Drive that connects to the server location.

Double-click on the Quotesoft_Piping_Installer.EXE to launch the QuoteSoft Piping Server installation.

After the installer launches, you see the Welcome screen.

Click Next, and the Destination Location screen displays.

If this is a local installation, leave it as the C Drive.

If this is for a network installation, click Browse and select the Mapped Drive that points to the server location. Then navigate to the folder/location where you want the Piping Server and Database installed.

Click next to get to the Start Installation screen.

On the Installation Start screen, click Next to start the installation (or click Back to change where the server files and database will be installed).

After you click Next, the QpipeServ folder and its contents are installed in the selected location. When the installation is finished, the Finish screen displays.

On this screen, you can choose to finish the Server and Database installation and launch the Workstation installation (most likely), or finish the Server and Database installation only.

  • If you want to start the Workstation installation, leave the “Launch Workstation Installer” checkbox checked and click Finish.

  • If you don’t want to install the workstation at this time, uncheck the “Launch Workstation Installer” check box and click Finish.

Install Pipe Workstation

After your Server and Database are installed, the next step is to install the Workstation for the Pipe program.

If you are installing a Workstation separate from the Server and Database installation, locate the Pipe workstation installer, QXP_Piping_Workstation.exe, in the folder where Server is installed (\QpipeServ\Programs).

Double-click QXP_Piping_Workstation.exe, to start the Workstation installation process.

This is done on each machine on which you will run the program.

After the installer launches, the Welcome screen displays; click Next to continue to the Destination Location screen.

By default, the application is installed to the root of your local “C” drive. Click Next to accept this default.

Click the Browse button, to select a different location, then click next to continue.

On the Select Components screen, select what needs to be installed with the workstation. Make sure that the Workstation, Crystal Reports 8.5, and the Onscreen Runtime are checked and click Next.

If you have an older installer, you may see other options such as “Sentinel Protection Installer”, make sure only the three options indicated above are checked.

The Start Installation screen displays…

Click Next to start the installation or the Back button if you need to make changes on any of the previous screens.

The installer installs the QpipeWrk folder and its contents in the selected location. When the installation is finished, the Installation Success screen displays.

Click Finish to close this screen.

Connect Workstation to Server

Once the Workstation is installed, you must connect it to the QpipeServ (Server) folder and the database. The Workstation will then update to the version that matches your server files and database.

Double-click the Express Piping desktop icon to launch the Quotesoft Pipe software.

If the QpipeServ folder and database are on a server rather than the local C Drive, a window opens advising you that the Server Database was not found.

Click the Browse button to open the Browse for Folder window.

Browse to the QpipeServ folder (where you installed the Server and Database) and expand it.

Click OK to link the Workstation to the Database.

On a newly installed Workstation, clicking OK also starts the update process.

Install/Run the 4.2r7 Update

Before performing this update, verify that the version of QuoteSoft Pipe installed on your computer is 2.9R2.5101 or higher. When Pipe is open, the version number is in the lower-left corner.

If you are not on Pipe version 2.9R2.5101 or higher, do not run the update.

Contact QuoteSoft Technical Support by submitting a Support Request or calling support at (877) 422-8665.

Once you have verified that you are on the correct version for the update, you must locate the QpipeServ folder. This folder may be on the root of your C drive or a server if you are using a network setup.

The location of the QPipe Server is on the main menu of the Pipe program, near the exit button.

By default, it is set to unzip to C:\QpipeServ. If you have installed it to another location, click the Browse… button and set the location to wherever your Server and Database are stored.

Click Unzip to extract the files into the selected location. When extraction is complete, a confirmation window displays.

Click OK to return to the WinZip Self-Extractor directory screen.

Click Close to close the WinZip Self-Extractor.

Once the files are extracted to the QpipeServ folder, launch Workstation by double-clicking the desktop icon, and the application checks for updates automatically.

When Pipe finds the update, it brings up one of the two confirmation windows. These windows are based on which updates are available for the version you have installed.

Either way, click Yes to confirm the update, the Qpipe prompt opens.

Click OK to launch the WinZip Self-Extractor confirmation window.

Click OK, and the WinZip Self-Extractor dialog opens.

Extract the files into the QpipeWrk folder. Leave the two options checked and click Unzip.

If you installed the Workstation to a folder other than C:\QpipeWrk, click the Browse… button to change the “Unzip to folder:” location as appropriate.

Once WinZip is finished extracting, a Windows Command Window (C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe) opens and the updater batch file runs.

This launches the Dependency Installer

Click Next in the Welcome screen to advance to the installation screen.

Click Install to complete the installation of the Quotesoft dependencies.

Click Finish to complete the update and close out of the Pipe program.

Depending on your version of Quotesoft Pipe, you may need to install multiple updates. Troubleshooting Common Installation/Updating Issue

Microsoft Excel Settings

When installing or updating the QuoteSoft Pipe program, you must adjust your Macro setting in your Excel Trust Center. If the MS Excel settings are not set correctly, you will see an error message when the Pipe program tries to update its Macro settings.

To adjust these settings, launch Excel and then select Options.

Select the Trust Center and then Macro Settings.

Then check:

  • Enable VBA Macros…

  • Enable Excel 4.0 macros…

  • Trust access to the VBA project object model

Click OK and close Excel. You can now relaunch the Pipe program to run the Macros update.

Fonts

If the fractions or sizes of items in the program are showing as symbols, you may be missing a font needed to display the correct size.

Close Pipe Workstation.

To install the fonts needed, locate the fonts folder at C:\QpipeWrk\Fonts.

Select all four fonts in that folder (qpsa.fon, qpss.fon, qpss1.ttf, and qpss2.ttf).

Right-click to open the Windows context menu

Select Install to install the required fonts.

Open Pipe Workstation, and it should display fractions correctly.
