General Contractor (GC)

 GCs (no apostrophe when pluralized) are companies, not people, in charge of the entire building process. Responsible for the day-to-day oversight of a construction site, management of vendors and trades and communication of information to involved parties throughout the course of a building project. A general contractor is responsible for providing all of the material, labor, equipment (such as engineering vehicles and tools) and services necessary for the construction of the project. The general contractor hires specialized subcontractors to perform all or portions of the construction work.

General Ledger (GL)

 A company’s set of numbered accounts for its accounting records.

 Remote desktop application that enables participants to see or share each others’ desktop.

Goldmine

 The legacy customer relationship management system used by the CDC Sales and Retention Teams.

GoToMeeting (GTM)

 Allows the host of a meeting to share his/her computer screen with attendees. This is frequently used for meetings and product demonstrations in which one or more persons is not on-site. 

Grading

 In civil engineering and construction it is the work of ensuring a level base, or one with a specified slope, for construction work, such as a foundation, the base course for a road or a railway, landscape and garden improvements or surface drainage. Refers to the inclination of a surface when compared to the horizontal level. Below grade refers to portions that are below ground level.
