FAQs: Accessing Files Saved on the ConstructConnect SFTP

ConstructConnect has a secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) site to help relay large project files, software drivers, and other project-related information to our customers.

This section covers the following most frequently asked questions for those who have not used an SFTP and/or have previously used our FTP site:

What is the difference between FTP and SFTP?

The main difference between FTP and SFTP is the “S.” SFTP is an encrypted or secure file transfer protocol. With FTP, when you send and receive files, but they are not encrypted. You may be using a secure connection, but the transmission and files themselves are not encrypted. SFTP also uses a port number (2220), whereas FTP does not use a port number.

Is my information automatically being transferred over to the SFTP?

Existing customer cata has already been transferred to the SFTP and will run simultaneously with the FTP server until January 20, 2023. After that time, the FTP will be sunsetted and any file transfers will be done over the SFTP alone.

Are there any programs or platforms I can use used to access my folder on the SFTP?

There are a number of programs you can use to access the SFTP folder as well, such as WINSCP, Cyberduck , and MobaXterm.

Can I still run FTP File Manager from the Windows Operating System?

The SFTP can also be accessed using the software utility, SFTP Drive. This will enable you to download your files through File Explorer.

Will we be there be an additional charge for this SFTP security upgrade?

ConstructConnect does not charge for the upgrade from FTP to SFTP.  However, customers who use a
third-party integration service may be charged by their integrator to update steps in the integration process.

How do I access the SFTP server?

  1.  If you currently have a ConstructConnect Insight account, go to ftp://ftp.cmdintegration.com.

  2. Find your current FTP folder and log-in with your original username and password.

  3. Find the file labeled “Info.txt” in your root directory.

  4. Note your new SFTP password in that Info.txt file.

  5. Use your original username and new password to connect to the new SFTP location: sftp://sftp.cmdintegration.com.

  6. If a Port is requested, the Port Number is 2220.

  7. Update your automated (or manual) file retrieval process with the new SFTP location and credentials.
