Best Practices for Installing QuoteSoft (Duct, Pipe)

Below are some of our recommendations for the installation of QuoteSoft Duct or Pipe products:

  • QuoteSoft is desktop software - designed to be installed locally and networked to a local file server.

  • You can install QuoteSoft in many types of Windows computing environments, but performance can be affected by lack of system resources (especially when other applications/services are running).

  • During Takeoff - QuoteSoft will utilize up to 100% of your available resources.

  • QuoteSoft and SQL Server installed entirely on a local computers C: drive (or any local drive).

  • Install QuoteSoft on your local C: drive and connect to a SQL Server on your LAN over a Gigabit ethernet connection.

  • QuoteSoft recommends: SplashTop, Teamviewer, GoToMyPC, AWS, VMware, or Citrix for remote or virtual setups. These programs are not distributed by nor supported by QuoteSoft.

  • QuoteSoft requires DirectX and DirectDraw compatibility for remote desktop connections (standard Windows RDP does not support DirectX or DirectDraw). Make sure whatever solution you attempt to implement supports DirectX and DirectDraw.

  • QuoteSoft takeoff performance will be contingent on your network speed. (Some customers work locally using remote desktops only to maintain/transfer jobs on the server.)

QuoteSoft does not recommend

  • Using a Wi-Fi connection – there is too much data transferred.

  • Using a VPN connection – there is too much data transferred.

  • Using a Cloud Server (either as your virtual desktop or SQL Server) – there is too much data transferred.

  • Using a NAS(Network Attached Storage) – there is too much latency in the data transferred.

General Rule-of-Thumb: the faster your computer (processor, RAM, hard drive), network (Gigabit), and server, the faster QuoteSoft will operate.
