Workaround for Storages Settings

Affects PlanSwift v. 11.0.0.89

9/16/2022

There is a Known Issues with the PlanSwift 11 installer, it does not retain a user’s settings when upgrading from any previous version of PlanSwift. Typically, this isn’t the “end of the world” but if you have configured custom Storage locations, it’s possible you did it so long ago that you don’t remember where they are and it could take you a while to figure out where your projects are.

We know this is less-than-ideal for our users and we apologize. Our engineers are working on a fix and we hope to have a new installer posted as soon as possible.

In the mean time, before upgrading to PlanSwift 11, follow the steps below to backup and restore your Storages settings:

Before installing the PlanSwift 11 upgrade,

  • Open Windows Explorer

  • Navigate to your “C” drive (or wherever your current version of PlanSwift is installed).

  • Copy this folder: “C:\Program Files (x86)\PlanSwift10\Data\Storages”

  • Paste that folder to your desktop

  • Copy this file: “C:\Program Files (x86)\PlanSwift10\Data\Settings\Data.xml”

  • Paste that file on your desktop, too

That’s your backup copy of your Storages settings.

  • Now, install PlanSwift 11 (as an upgrade in place, using the existing installation folder).

  • Uncheck the option to Launch PlanSwift on the final screen of the installer.

After installing PlanSwift 11 (before launching it),

  • Open Windows Explorer again

  • Copy the Storages folder you pasted onto your desktop

  • Navigate to your “C” drive (or wherever your current version of PlanSwift is installed).

  • Paste that Storages folder into “C:\Program Files (x86)\PlanSwift10\Data\”

  • Return to your desktop and copy the “Data.xml” file

  • Paste that in “C:\Program Files (x86)\PlanSwift10\Data\Settings\”

That should restore your Storages settings.

Launch PlanSwift 11 and verify your Storages are shown correctly in Settings > Data Storage.
