Understanding the LEED-Registered Projects

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System® is a national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) developed LEED® to define green building design and to raise awareness of its impact on the environment. LEED promotes the incorporation of environmentally friendly and energy efficient products into construction projects throughout the building industry. The LEED-Registered Project rating system is a voluntary, performance-oriented system in which points and credits are awarded for building features, product selection, and design choices that satisfy specific green building criteria.

The USGBC is establishing a national effort to provide the architectural, engineering, and construction industries with the informational tools necessary to design, construct and operate building facilities that are sustainable, energy-efficient and high performing, both inside and out. Council members work together to develop industry standards, policy positions and educational materials, as well as facility design, construction and operating practices and guidelines that support the adoption of sustainable design and building practices. For more information, see the U.S. Green Building Council web site.
